I am thinking about getting trepanated. (Involves getting a hole cut in the skull as a means to higher consciousness.) Has anyone undergone it? Any thoughts?

Mon, January 5, 2004 - 12:03 AMI owned (may still own) the trepan8.com domain. Too bad the Network Solutions/Verisign assholes are so incompetent that it's stuck in some kind of weird limbo rather than getting transferred correctly. -

Re: Trepanation
Thu, August 4, 2005 - 1:41 AMGenerally, trepanation outside a hospital setting with trained neurosurgeons present is just as effectivly done with a bullet as with any other device as the results are about the same.
People get what are known as burr holes to relieve pressure in the skull after traumatic injury all the time; none have reported recieving any results other than a lowered intercrainial pressure and a phenominal headache. -

Re: Trepanation
Thu, August 4, 2005 - 6:04 AMFollowing 24 brain surgeries between 1980 and 1994, I can report that the only transcendental experience came following two cerebral hemorrhages in the OR in 10.81 and while in a coma for six weeks thereafter. I wouldn't be the same person without those ordeals, but I wouldn't suggest anyone chasing the experience either!

Thu, August 18, 2005 - 5:54 PMSo that's what they call that hole in my head.....a burr hole! And here I was walking around calling it my blow hole!
Actually I got my burr hole following a basal tip aneurysm, complete with a major bleed. A month later I developed hydro, and got a VP shunt.
VP shunts suck. -

Re: Trepanation
Tue, May 2, 2006 - 9:14 AMI have a VP shunt for Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension aka Pseudo Tumor Cerebri.
Trepanation was a enlightening experience I could barely handle. Everything was so intense, I would cry just watching the grass move in the wind. It was very hard to relate to others at the time, it was like no one could understand me anymore. I don't know about doing it for non medical reasons unless all of the proper precautions are taken.
