After my surgery, I had such extreme pain in the brain. I was on a crazy combination of narcotics for 6 months and they barely helped ease the pain. It took me atleast 2 years to heal, infact, I still don't feel beck to normal at almost 3 years. I am wondering if anyone here has experienced this and also if you feel back to 100%.

otterbop: Come on, what happened? WHY did you have brain surgery? And what plusses did you benefit from? More importantly, what was the most fascinating or strange part of your brain surgery experience?

Have you ever worried that they accidentally sliced into some important part of your brain, but didn’t tell you? What if you lost some highly important part of your brain / mind, and yet you are totally unable to realize this fact, since your very capacity to recognize what has happened to you was removed when that part of your brain was damaged? Anyway, this is what I would worry about if I had brain surgery. Scary stuff, huh? Okay, I shouldn’t have brought it up—just thinking about this could freak someone out.

By the way, does anyone HAVE cosmetic brain surgery? Sounds interesting, but I seriously doubt it. Great idea though.

But I think it would be awesome to have a risk-free brain surgery (if such existed), and have the surgeon touch many places on my brain with a weak electrode, like the brain surgeon Wilder Penfield did in the 1950's, in order to evoke extraordinarily vivid memories (as if re-living the experience) and intense/powerful/bizarre experiences. Then they could place an electrode on each of the spots that evoke my favorite memories and experiences, and the wisest states of mind I’ve ever had. When I wake up, they could give me a special remote control with which I could activate any one of these electrodes at will…

Now THAT would be cool. This has been a fantasy of mine since the thought occurred to me many years ago. Am I abnormal? Sign me up when this technology is available, and the risk is negligible.

Come to think of it, I don’t want the electrodes to be magnetic, lest I walk through a strong magnetic field and get my brain scrambled. And I don’t want them to heat up in the presence of microwaves, or any other electromagnetic radiation, lest my brain heat up and cook when I talk on a cellphone or walk underneath a power line. Etc. You gotta be careful with the brain, you know!

I once had the pleasure of dissecting a brain in an anatomy class (fortunately, the guy had been dead for quite some time). I was great.

Being from Boston is a blessing and a curse. On the one hand you've got a cool town full of young, college students, plenty of hard-drinking Irish, the best sports fans in the world (New York can go eff itself), if not the best sports teams in the world (again, New York can go eff itself, LA too for that matter), a skyline that is beautiful and constantly improving, access to the great, white northern reaches of Maine, New Hamshire (land where I was born), and Vermont (not to mention Montreal, ooh la la!), and beneath all that the veneer of Democracy and the foundations of the American Way. On the other hand, if you are going to live in Boston (n.b. I'm now living in L.A.) you're going to have to contend with the horrendous Boston accenct, which is truly the most vulgar of all the accents of the English speaking tribes. Here I will present to you a brief, concise guide to the Boston accent and some of its more quaint aphorisms. ahh-hem:
No where in the Boston dialect will there be found anything resembling and "R" sound. In Boston you "Pahk your Cah", but it take alot "moah" than dropping "yoa" "ahs" to "toahk" like a native. When someone is odd, or different they are "weeahd", which is usually preceeded the adjective "wicked", as is "That guy's wicked weeahd". In fact, "wicked" is one of the most interesting and commonly used adjectives in the Boston dialect. A brief sample:
Wicked Weeahd: someone or something that is odd
Wicked Retahded: someone or something (usually someone) that is stupid. Usually someone from either Reveah, Wuhstah, Quinzee, or Billrickah.
Wicked Pissah/ahwsome: Really Cool/Nice
If someone wants to fight you in Boston the may likely say: "Y'wannah Staht s'ihn?" before they try to start something and kick your ass (a personal favorite of my wise ass).
That's all I can stand for the moment, hopefully you get the idea. What this has to do with Brainsurgery I'm not sure, although post-surgery I am most definitely Wicked Retahded, and if any Neurosurgeon can figure out a cure for the Boston accent he will certainly get my vote for the Nobel Prize.
